Harrisburg – Pennsylvania Attorney General Josh Shapiro today endorsed Eugene DePasquale to represent Pennsylvania’s Tenth Congressional District in the United States House of Representatives.
“I’m endorsing Eugene DePasquale for Congress because I know he is an honest, ethical fighter for the people of Pennsylvania,” said Shapiro. “I served alongside Eugene both as a legislator in Harrisburg and as a statewide public official, and I’ve watched him work to protect taxpayers from waste, fraud and abuse. I’m confident he’s the right person at the right time to take his fight to Washington.”
“Eugene and I share a commitment to reform and good government,” said Shapiro. “He has led by example as the first public official to publicly post his own state legislative expenses online, and then challenged others in Harrisburg to do the same. When he became auditor general, he began by reforming his own office and making it more transparent. He eliminated his office’s taxpayer-funded car fleet, consolidated offices and reduced administrative costs by implementing new technology. He saved taxpayers millions of dollars.”
“While serving as auditor general, Eugene uncovered over $1 billion in wasteful and fraudulent spending,” said Shapiro. “But his leadership has been impactful beyond numbers. He has exposed injustices infecting our Commonwealth—from uncovering untested rape kits that denied justice for so many victims, to exposing phone calls to our state child abuse hotline that were going unanswered, to shining a light on unreported elder abuse. This work has helped thousands and I have been grateful to have him as a partner in keeping Pennsylvanians safe.”
“Eugene’s leadership and experience in making our institutions more transparent and accountable to taxpayers is exactly what we need in Washington today,” said Shapiro. “Pennsylvanians need his voice in Washington and I know he’ll be a fighter for all of us.”
